Showcomotion Children’s Media Conference:
World Without Schedules

A new conference for children’s television will run on 2 & 3 July this year in Sheffield. It’s a real opportunity for everyone from kids’ TV to gather in one place for two days of in-depth debate and discussion.

The Showcomotion Children's Media Conference Committee members are: Anna Home Children’s Film & Television Foundation (Chair); Steven Andrew, Controller of Children’s ITV; Sarah Baynes, The Creative Garden; Michael Carrington, Head of CBBC Acquisitions; Linda James, Sly Fox Films.

Anna Home, Chair of the Conference said:

‘We felt it was about time that we, in the children’s TV sector, should get together over two days and talk in depth about the new challenges that face us. In some ways young people’s TV is already a window on the future: niche channels, high usage of non-terrestrial channels, interactivity, PVRs. As the title of the conference demonstrates, for many children it already is a world without schedules.

With this in mind, we will be asking the “future-watchers” to talk about how they see the current landscape evolving and how this will impact upon programme making. Policy, finances, regulation and technology will all be examined.

We will also offer practical ways forward for children’s television producers; we will look at case studies of shows which have used content and technology to create successful breakout programmes.’

Panellists include:

Michael Carrington, Head Of Acquisitions & Animations, CBBC
Marion Edwards, CEO, Millimage UK & PACT Animation Committee
